ADOPT A CLASSROOM

A joint partnership of the Midway Chamber of Commerce & Support Our Schools.

Adopt-A-Classroom is modeled after the Adopt-A-Highway program. In that popular program, the huge project of maintaining a long highway is shared when scores of businesses, groups and clubs adopt a short stretch of highway. In the Adopt-A-Classroom program, participants "adopt" a single classroom and direct their resources to that classroom. Working together within their individual means, small businesses and other group can make a big contribution to students in St. Paul. Adopt-A-Classroom puts resources directly where they are needed and will do the most good: in the classroom.

Why Elementary Schools?

Studies indicates that students who are not performing at their grade level in elementary school are the most likely candidates to drop out of high school and never learn the skills they need to be productive adults. Now is the time to invest in students. Adopt-A-Classroom focuses on three elementary schools: Maxfield Science and Mathematics Technology Magnet School, Como Park Elementary School, North End Elementary School and Galtier Magnet Elementary. Our goal is to secure a partner for the 100+ homerooms in these four schools. By focusing on these schools, Adopt-A-Classroom is taking a leading role in providing community resources for public education, and moral support for teachers who have a very difficult job.

Your Donations Make A Difference

Many of our students go to school every day at a disadvantage because their families cannot afford basic school supplies.  Put yourself in the student’s place:  What would happen at work if you went to lunch and while you were out, someone took your computer, and printer, ink pens, all your stationary and envelopes and invoice paper, calculators, pencils—all the supplies you depend upon to get your work done. As you are sitting there at a bare desk, your boss comes in and says “I need the new contract right away” or “those invoices have to go out today.”

This is the burden that students are carrying into the classroom.  In an era where school budgets are tightening, it is increasingly difficult for the schools to provide these needed supplies.  This lack of resources holds them back.

You can support students by adopting a single classroom and supporting the teacher and students with a $100 cash donation to the classroom.  Each $100 donation is 100 percent tax deductible and every cent of it goes into the classroom.
