CANDIDATE COLLEGE
Candidate
College, a biannual
course for candidates for the St. Paul Board of Education, was first organized
by Support Our Schools in 1997. During each election cycle, Support Our Schools
organizes seminars and develops written materials on important education issues
for all school board candidates at no charge. Candidate College
helps school board candidates learn about the statutory responsibilities of the
school board and school board members, increase their knowledge of school and
community issues, learn about education finance and the school district’s
budget, review student achievement data, and develop their leadership capacity.
Candidate
College is nonpartisan
and does not advocate a particular position on any issue. Neither Candidate College
nor Support Our Schools endorses school board candidates or provides campaign
or financial support for persons running for the school board.
The next Candidate
College course convenes
in the summer of 2009.
